On Saturday, May 17th, the Stornoway Bridge Club met for its first ever ‘Benside Cup’ competition.

The hosts for the event were Catriona and Liz Carmichael and there was a fantastic turnout of 16 people, which allowed the group to play an individual competition of 21 boards and no rovers.

It was a fantastic evening with most of the members playing for the first time since the outing to Ness in March.

As always in an individual competition there is an element of luck, but on this occasion there was also a huge element of skill, as the eventual winner finished the evening with an impressive score of 63%.

And how fitting that the winner of the first ever Benside Cup should be Liz Carmichael herself. Well done Liz!

In second place (following on from her success in Ness) was Gerda Graauwmans with 59% and in third place with 58% was Jimmy Ogilvie.
