Quad star John on course in British Championships

STORNOWAY quad bike star, John Mitchell is sitting in second place in the 2010 Goldspeed ACU British Quad Championships after a day of mixed fortunes at round two in Desertmartin, Northern Ireland.

Having achieved three wins out of three for team ATV World Yamaha in round one, the pro quad biker's luck began to run out in Northern Ireland.

Having overcome a poor start in the first race and fighting back to second place, he picked up stone which smashed his chain, ending his race with the leader well in sight.

The setback on race one served only to make John and his team more determined to emulate their dominating form of round one.

John steered his ATV World Yamaha YFZ450R Fuel Injection quad to an impressive victory in race two. Buoyed by the breakthrough in race two, John went into race three with the confidence to win it.

Battling with the KTM of Paul Winrow, the two riders thrilled the crowd as they began lapping the backmarkers. But as John approached one backmarker, the blue flag to allow John through was waved. The backmarker, apparently not noticing the flag, stayed on John's racing line and forced him over the burm losing him time on the leader and settling for second place.

Afterwards John said: "There wasn't anything I could do about race one but I showed what I'm capable of with this quad in race two taking the win. I love coming to Desertmartin. It's a fantastic track and the weekend has been very well organised. I'm confident I would have been a serious challenge for the lead in race three if the backmarker had observed the blue flag...I will go into round three with a solid determination to succeed in this championship. I won four out of six races this weekend which I am very happy about."

John is now in second place in the overall championship standings after two rounds. The third round of the Goldspeed ACU British Championship takes place on June 27 at Broadhembury in Devon.
