Stornoway RFC’s Boxing Day match went ahead as planned this year, despite the threat of cancellation with the bad weather, and was arguably their most successful to date.
The weather on the day played its part, as a freak spell of sunshine hit the plot at Bayhead. For the first time the decided to try a junior version of the annual event, and this proved very popular with over 25 brave youngsters coming out for a run.
After a short break it was seniors turn to strut their stuff, albeit some what slower than normal! There were one or two ‘oldies’ on show, GG Campbell for the 50+ and Ainslie Macpherson still going strong at 60 years young! At the other end of the spectrum, 16-year-old Ian Murdo didn’t look out of place at all!
The game was played with the usual jovial spirit, although someone forgot to tell ‘Big Rick’ to hold off with the big hits....get well soon Euan!!
With Mashies now legendary Christmas ‘punch’ brewing away on the sideline, O’Hara’s Norwegian Tea going down a treat and Donnie Graham’s Rusty Nail filled hip flask, it’s fair to say a great day was had by all!
Hoping you all all had a great Christmas and have a fantastic New Year, from all at SYRFC.
