TODAY is the day for keen runners, and walkers, to pull on their joggers and trainers and take to the Castle Grounds which is hosting the Stornoway Family Fun Run and the Women’s Cancer Challenge 5K.
The Fun Run starts at Porters Lodge this morning at 10:15am with medals available for all runners who take part in the two-mile race.
Later today the 5K, where all funds raised support the great work of the Lewis branch of Cancer Research UK, starts at the Lewis Castle College car park and the route follows that of previous years: down past the Castle and past Cuddy Point to the mouth of the River Creed before circling back to finish on the Castle Green.
The meeting point this year is slightly different to previous years as there is another event taking place at the College. Toilet facilities etc are available at the Weaver’s Shed – the wooden building on the right as you reach the College Car Park.
Parking at the College is limited, so car-sharing or parking elsewhere and walking to the start – a good warm up! – is encouraged.
Participants will be split into three groups for the Challenge, with those intending to run all the way at the front of the pack, those running a little and walking a little in the middle, and at the back, those intending to walk the whole route.
