Last Wednesday night saw a revamped Donnie Bookie cup being played at the Sea Angling club with each team captain randomly selecting 4 players to join them for the night.
There were some very close first round matches. The Manor team for the night went into a 2-0 lead with Robbie and Ian M picking up 3-0 wins over Finlay and Marina. Alex M pulled one back beating Gordie 3-2 but Jam (3-2) and Paul (3-1) won the last two singles against Alex and Euan for a commanding 4-1 lead. Extreme fought back winning the triple and both doubles to take the match to a play off with Manor emerging victorious.
The Lodge and Ness was another close encounter. Wins from Calum R (3-2 v Haggis), Ruaridh (3-1 v Sandra)and Robert C (3-2 v Sander) saw the Lodge edging the singles 3-2. Andy (3-0 v Gaffer) and Dan (3-0 v Rovert S) replied for Ness. That was to be the end of the action for the Lodge with Ness winning the triple and both doubles for a 5-3 win.
The Sea Angling B versus the Golf Club was the only first round game not to make it to the doubles. Murdo A beat Calum M 3-1 in the first game but Sea Angling B came back with wins for Stephen (3-1 v Alan B) and Jim (3-1 v James). The Golf Club finished the singles strongly with Iain B winning 3-1 against Gordon M and Jason picking up a 3-0 win versus Andrew. The Golf Club won the triple to clinch the match 5-2.
The semi-final between Sea Angling A and Ness was another close affair. The Sea Angling started strongly with wins from Murdo (3-1 v Sandra), Jamie (3-0 v Sander) and Mark (3-2 v Dan). Ness replied winning the final two singles when Andy beat Sam (3-1) and Haggis beat Alex P (3-2). Murdo, Jamie and Mark won the triple for the Sea Angling and the doubles were shared to put the Sea Angling through to the final.
In the other semi-final, the Golf Club took four of the singles against Manor with wins for Murdo A (3-1 v Ian M), Jason (3-2 v Finlay), James (3-2 v Robbie) and Alan B (3-1 v Jam). Paul picked up the solitary singles win beating Iain B 3-1. Murdo A, Jason and James clinched the match and a place in the final winning the triple versus Finlay, Ian M and Robbie.
With the competition to be played to a finish on the night the Sea Angling A started with a close win with Murdo edging out Murdo A 3-2. Jason pulled one back for the Golf Club beating Jamie 3-0.
The Sea Angling team then took the next two with wins for Mark (3-2 v James) and Sam (3-0 v Iain B). Alan B reduced the deficit in the final singles game beating Alex P 3-0. Murdo, Jamie and Sam then won the triple leaving the Sea Angling just one win from picking up the trophy.
Murdo A and James made them wait a bit longer winning the first double but it was Jamie and Sam who clinched the match 5-3 beating Jason and Iain B.
