Over seven thousand pounds was raised this year by participants of the seventh Womens Cancer Challenge 5k, held in Lews Castle Grounds, Stornoway, in May.

Event organisers Tony and Kirsty Wade were extremely pleased to present Kay MacKay of the Cancer Research UK Lewis branch with a cheque for £7,542.76 recently.

And this week Kay will be attending a Reception in the House of Lords, invited by Cancer Research UK in recognition of the fundraising efforts of the Lewis branch.

Over 500 island ladies took part in the 2013 Challenge – and each should be proud of the part they played, as Tony said: “It is another fantastic amount raised for the Lewis branch of Cancer Research UK.
“A massive thank you to everyone who took part in or helped make this year’s event happen and congratulations to everyone involved on raising an amazing total!”

Don’t panic however if you took part and haven’t handed over your sponsor money, as Tony added: “Don’t forget that any stragglers can continue to pay sponsorship etc into the account and it will be included in next year’s total!”
