The Islands Book Trust will host a talk by broadcaster Hugh Dan MacLennan about the history of shinty in the Western Isles at the end of March.
Hugh Dan has had a life-long interest in shinty, from his younger days as a child in Lochaber to his current position as an historian and sports broadcaster, commentating on
some of the top events in rugby, football and shinty, whilst visiting many of the world’s great sporting venues on the way.
In his talk Hugh Dan will be delving into the history of shinty throughout the Western Isles where the game was more common than might be currently believed.
Whilst not an unbroken tradition, its roots in the islands can be traced back for hundreds of years.
Two talks will take place on March 26th from 8pm at Claddach Kirkibost, North Uist and on March 27th from 7,30pm at the An Lanntair arts centre, Stornoway.
