Stornoway police officers were among the medal winners at the recent Police Service UK track and field championships.

The Force scooped the second highest medal tally (11), competing against 28 other Police forces, some with considerably larger officer numbers.

Northern walked away with four Gold medals, three Silver medals and four bronzes from the event held at Solihull in Birmingham.

The Force now has three title holders: Men’s 400m hurdles champion, PC Cameron Ross from (Stornoway Police Station); Women’s triple jump champion, PC Victoria Duthie, (Lerwick Police Station) and Women’s 800m winner, PC Marina MacDonald (Kirkwall Police Station).

The full list of medal winners and times was as follows:

PC Cameron Ross, Stornoway: Gold in the Men’s 400m hurdles (Time: 58.3 secs)

PC Marina MacDonald, Kirkwall: Gold in the Women’s 800m (Time: 2 min 40.1 secs)

PC Victoria Duthie, Lerwick: Gold in the Women’s Triple Jump (Distance: 10.03 metres; Bronze in the Women’s Javelin (Distance 25.28 metres) and 4th place in the Women’s Long Jump (4.52 metres).

PC Maureen MacKinnon, Stornoway: Silver in Women’s 100m (Time: 14.1 secs); Silver in Women’s Long Jump, missing out on Gold by 1cm (Distance: 4.72 metres) and Bronze in the Women’s triple jump (Distance 9.90m).

PC Keith Whitelaw, Inverness: Bronze in Men’s Long Jump (Distance: 6.19 metres).

Inspector David Ogilvie, HQ: Bronze in Men’s Shot Putt with throw of 11.25 metres; 4th place in Men’s Hammer (Distance: 32.80 metres); 4th place in Men’s Discus (Distance: 30.96 metres).

PC Katie Johnstone, Inverness: 5th place in Women’s 1500m.

PCs MacDonald/Duthie/Johnstone/ MacKinnon: Gold in Women’s 4x100m relay (Time: 56.7 secs).

PCs David Miller/Ross/Scott MacDonald/Whitelaw: Silver in Men’s 1600m medley relay (Time: 3 mins 49.8 secs)

Team spokesman, Inspector David Ogilvie, said: “This really was an excellent set of results and the team certainly punched way above its weight considering the large pool of athletes other Forces have to choose from.

“We can be very proud of our performance which promotes Northern Constabulary officers at a national level.”
