Stornoway Primary football teams earn a shot at the national schools qualifer

Stornoway Primary Green and Blue were the top two at the recent Scottish Schools Western Isles Primary Football Qualifiers.

The two schoolmate sides took top spot in both the Primary Seven and the Primary Six competiton on the All Weather Pitch, Stornoway last week.

Both competitions were well attended with six teams doing battle in each.

The weather overhead, despite proving temperamental with occasional icy downpours, didn’t dampen the players’ enthusiasm on an excellent afternoon of football.

The Primary 7 competition kicked off first with six representing three local schools. Stornoway Primary Green, Laxdale Allstars and Shawbost Strikers battled it out for top spot in League One, whilst Stornoway Primary Blue, Stornoway Primary Red and Laxdale Aces met each other in League Two.

The closely fought final was contested by Stornoway Primary Green & Laxdale Aces with Stornoway Primary emerging victors and booking their place in the next round of the competition. In the Primary 6 competition six teams competed against each other for a place in the final.

After some competitive games Stornoway Primary Blue proved eventual winners after a close final with new school Sgoil an Taobh Siar who gave a good account of themselves and looked the part in their new strips!

The Sport and Health department would like to thank all the parents and staff who came along to support the pupils on the day and allowed them to attend and participate in the event.

Finally, thank you to the pupils for making the event a success, despite the cold weather. Everyone involved with the event wish Stornoway Primary Green and Stornoway Primary Blue all the best in the Scottish Schools finals for which they have now qualifed.
