AFTER the success of the inaugural Stornoway Lunar Walk last year, event organiser Eilidh Thompson is again calling for island ladies – and gentlemen – to get moonlight strolling and raise funds for Cancer Research.
“It was a great atmosphere last year with everyone really enjoying themselves and a real excited buzz about the walk,” said Eilidh.
“We had a total of 116 walkers for the first ever Lunar Walk, so we’re hoping to capitalise on that and get even more people involved this year – and there’s no reason why the island men can’t join in the fun!” she added.
Last year those who took part in the 10k walk raised the superb sum of £1,687 which was donated to the Lewis Branch of Cancer Research UK – and the charity is set to benefit from the event again this year.
Taking place on Friday, September 9, the 2011 walk begins at 9pm from Perceval Square, following Cromwell Street and Bayhead out of town before turning up Matheson Road at the Porter’s Lodge roundabout and heading down James Street, along South Beach Street and Castle Street to return to the town’s civic square. And three times round the route will see walkers complete 10k!
“Last year we had a number of ladies who came wearing decorated bras and t-shirts and we’re hoping for that again this year as it really added to the fun of the night,” said Eilidh.
“It’s a great event to get a group of your friends or workmates involved in, and it would be nice to see some men involved this year – we’ll let them off with not wearing a decorated bra, so there’s no need for them to worry!” she chuckled.
Entry and sponsor forms for the 2011 Stornoway Lunar Walk are available from Lewis Sports Centre and Sportsworld shop in Stornoway, and entry fee to the event is £10.
