The 9th Western Isles Darts Festival is well under way with the Sea Angling full to the brim with top darts players.
Last night (Thursday) 31st January saw the over 40’s Singles start things off with a 6.30pm start followed by one of the biggest comps in the calender - The Allan Dowie Memorial Singles.
And today it’s what is called Frantic Friday, with three comps in the one day, and it starts with the Blind Draw Doubles at 3pm, which is a good comp for everyone as you might get paired with a top player from the mainland, then at 5pm it is the Open Three’s and at 7.30pm it’s the Open Doubles.
Also there is an auction on Friday night for hospitality tickets for four at Doncaster Racecourse and three nights stay in the Crown hotel, Bawtry, great if your going away in the summer.
On Saturday there’s another auction with four hospitality tickets to see Olly Murrs on Friday 1st March and three nights in the Rutland hotel, Sheffield.
The Darts starts at 11.30am with a mixed doubles, a good day for the women to turn up as there’s also a Women’s singles comp on.
At 12.30pm it is the Big One, the Open Singles which local player Andy Dowie has won last three years. Other locals who will be wanting to do well are Murdo Alex who has been in last eight in the last four years and Griddy past semifinalist, but it’s the young local players to look out for with Alex Morrison, Jamie Reid, Murdo Macleod and Finlay Maciver all in cracking form. And with old heads Donnie Uist, Davie Stewart, David Campbell, Norrie, Kenny, Compo, it’s the best local line up yet.
Coupled with the quality of players coming from mainland this year it is going to be some comp on Saturday. If you want to enter you have to do so by today (Friday 1st February).
