School may be out for summer but the Nicolson Institute’s senior boys football team had to postpone any planned breaks to contest a remarkably late North of Scotland Cup final.
Taking place a week into the summer holidays the North of Scotland Cup pitted the Stornoway schoolboys against Buckie High School, as they looked to match the achievements of their female schoolmates who won both the North of Scotland Cup and the Schools Scottish Shield in recent weeks.
Making the now familiar trek to Dingwall’s Highland Football Academy, the boys were in good spirits and high confidence – although they were without the majestic left-peg of full-back Alexander Macdonald who was injured.
Buckie began on the offensive, with the Aberdeenshire side proving to be well drilled and disciplined.
But their first chance came more from some sloppy defending by the Niccy than any great creation of their own devices.
The final score was Buckie High School 3, Nicolson Institute 1.
