The penultimate trial for the Western Isles Island Games Assocation’s men’s football squad is taking place tonight (Friday, November 22) with the management team keen to select a pool of players who they can work with and develop, and represent the Western Isles at the next International Island games to be held in Jersey, 2015.
The management team of Eric ‘Strada’ Macleod and Magnus Johnson have been hugely encouraged by the response thus far, with over fifty players having confirmed an interest in trying out for the squad. Two previous trials were held prior to the season commencing but, with the countdown to the next games already in the ascendancy, the management team are keen to push on and have a pool/squad of players selected in time for training to start early in the new year.
Both Eric and Magnus have been particularly encouraged by the young talent that is starting to emerge and, along with more established players, the management team are keen to use a mix of youth and experience as they look to develop their squad in preparation for the next games.
There are to be two further trials in Stornoway on Friday 22 and Friday, November 29.
These trials will be held on the all-weather pitch at Smith Avenue, Stornoway from 8pm – 9pm on each evening. Please note this will be the last two trials to be held in Stornoway, prior to a pool of players being selected.
A further trial/s will be held in Uist early in the new year (date/s to be confirmed). Mainland based players who have shown an interest but, who are unable to make the trials, will also be considered for selection by the management team. Should any player be unable to make the trials, but would still like to be considered for the pool/squad, then please let your intentions be known to the management team. If you’re interested, please call either, Eric Macleod on 07917631371 or, Magnus Johnson on 07818454052 to confirm your attendance/interest.
