Amhuinnsuidh Estate product picks up Great Taste Award

Great Taste, the world's most coveted blind-tasted food awards, which celebrates the very best in food and drink, has announced the Great Taste stars of 2016.

Out of 10,000 products to be judged, Amhuinnsuidhe Castle Estate was awarded a 3-star Great Taste award for its saddle of venison.

The wild red deer venison from the hills of Harris and South Lewis proved a big hit with the judges, who described it as ‘really delicate, moist and tender with a fine texture, delicious flavour with gentle gaminess.’

Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme.

“ We, at Amhuinnsuidhe, have enjoyed working alongside some of the best producers to fill our exclusive hampers and to stock our own estate shop with quality gourmet delights. In doing so, we noticed the importance and emphasis on Great Taste products and decided to try our luck with our own favourite!

“Knowing our venison has a great story, an ethical background and is simply delicious we thought it was time to introduce it to the outside world.

“We are delighted to know that it’s not just local residents who appreciate it’s flavour and texture, and hope that this award will lead to a piece of our pristine wilderness being enjoyed on plates further afield,” explains Cristina Morrison, Associate Director.
