Plant sale - Balallan Hall Committee are holding a plant sale with Grosebay Nurseries, a home baking stall, with a soup and pudding lunch this Saturday 18th June from noon till 2.30pm.

The Hall Committee would like to thank all the groups that use the hall, for their patience and understanding while the renovations have been taking place at the hall. “While the hall was useable, the ambience was not always great! Thank you all.

Celebraton - Pairc Trust are holding a celebration event on Sat 18th June to celebrate taking ownership of the Estate on behalf of the community. It starts at 4pm in Ravenspoint. More information can be found on the Pairc Trust Facebook page.

NESS

A colourful event - The very colourful 5k event ColourMeNess will take place on July 23, with all monies raised to be donated to Autism Nan Eliean Siar.

The event will open at 12 noon where you can collect your t-shirts and purchase individual packets of holi powder (which provides the colours).

The run will start at 1pm and follows the same route as last year through Eoropie, Fivepenny, Knockaird, Lionel, St Ronan’s and back to the start at Spors Nis.

It is advisable that participants wear old clothes and sunglasses.

The inaugural event in 2015 saw more than 100 runners taking part, with upwards of £1,430 raised which was donated to the St Jerome’s Centre in Kenya.

Ness Gala Day - The Ness Gala day will take place on Saturday, June 25th at Fivepenny machair.

On the day there will be a disco dome, mini go-karts, clay pigeon shooting, craft stalls, face painting, BBQ and tea tent with the Uist Pipe Band and Ness Highland Dancers performing for the crowd.

Piano Concert - International Concert Pianist Robin Colville will be performing at the An Lanntair arts centre in Stornoway on Thursday, June 23rd, pieces being performed will include: Mozart Fantasy, Chopin Nocturne and Finlandia Concert Transcription.

Drag Race - The 2016 Drag Race at Stornoway Airport is due to take place on Saturday, June 25th at 6pm.

Entry forms to take part are available from Autoparts Stornoway Ltd on Island Road and must be handed in by June 22nd.

Special guest vehicle this year is a metro 6r4, regarded as one of the best sounding vehicles in the world.

All monies raised on the night will be donated to local charities.

RNLI Shop - The Stornoway RNLI Shop on Cromwell Street is now open for the summer.

With plenty on offer for all ages, why not pop in for a look around and grab yourself an RNLI bargain from the sale-shelf, or pick up a new bucket and spade and head to the beach. The Stornoway RNLI Shop will be open from 11am to 3pm until September.

POINT

Point Show - The Point Show will take place at Aird Showground on Saturday, July 16th from 1.30pm (gates open at 1pm) The 2016 event will have12 competition sections with 156 classes.

The horse show will take place on Friday evening, July 15th from 5pm.

The show will be opened by Rhoda Macdonald.

WESTERN ISLES

Cycle challenge - The Hebridean Cycle Challenge will take place this year on Saturday, June 18th.

Competitors will race through a 44 mile route across Lewis and Harris with road and off-road sections.

A 21-mile alternative route is also available to less keen cyclists and for walkers there is a seven and a half mile Hebridean Charity Walk.

The 2016 event will support the Andrew Macleod Memorial Fund which raises money and awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
