The Carloways bring their brand of Country Rock to Stornoway

The band are a young, five-piece band from Bridge of Earn, and their style is a mixture of Rock and good old Country music.

Named ‘The Carloways’ in tribute to singer Mikey Maclennan’s mum who spent some of her childhood on the family croft in the district the band are delighted to be playing Lewis for the first time.

The band is: Mikey Maclennan - Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica; Flynn Sweeney - Guitar, Vocals; Stevie Tarantino - Bass, Backing Vocals; Chris ‘Pat’ Paterson - Guitar, Mandolin and Chuck Haggart Jnr - Drums.

Talking about their first gig in the Islands Mikey said: “We have never been before, so we are really looking forward to seeing the sights.”

Describing the band’s style he added: “We play classic American Country with a Rock style and do about 50/50 between covers and original material.”

With the music of the Rolling Stones and Johnny Cash likely to be featured there should be something for everyone on the set list.

Mikey added: “We like to do different covers, not what you usually hear, and we have quite a big range.”

The band have been playing countless gigs for the last few months, finding their sound and building a reputation as a feel-good, party rock and roll band.

They made their debut festival appearance at Americana Cavalcade in June 2015, also launching their debut single the same day, and have also performed extremely successful slots at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival (Potting Shed Stage and Inchyra Arts Stage) and Southern Fried Festival.

Also entertaining at the Golf Club on Saturday night will be local acts Eleanor Nicolson and Iain Neosa MacKinnon, who are always firm favourites with Island audiences.
