Catch up with Tiree's festival line up thanks to BBC ALBA

BBC ALBA ushers in rays of summer sunshine and a splash of great music to our screens as the Tiree Music Festival returns for the second year.

The festival, which took place last weekend, had a packed programme of music and entertainment which more than tripled the population of the island.

Music fans gathered on the island from Friday to Sunday for the sold-out event, which featured top names in Scottish and folk music.

Flook and Skerryvore opened the festival ahead of headliners including Levellers, Skipinnish and Trail West.

The festival takes place on the white sand banks of Crossapol beach and is a firm favourite with families and music fans alike.

The island, which is known as the ‘Hawaii of the North’, attracts revellers coming from far and wide – including America, South Korea and Switzerland.

Presenters Sarah Cruickshank and Vicky Kilgour will host the series on BBC ALBA over two successive weekends, starting on 23th July with further festival highlights to follow later this year.

The best kept secret of the summer festival circuit, the award winning Tiree Music Festival has sold out every year since it kicked off 2010.

But unlucky music fans, who missed out on tickets this year can bask in the sights and sounds of Tiree on BBC ALBA.

The continued success of this festival owes almost as much to location as it does to the music on offer.

Over the course of the series, viewers will get a chance to explore what Tiree has to offer – stretches of white sandy beaches, Atlantic surf and miles of machair.

Over the festival weekend, BBC ALBA will record some of the finest performances from the festival stages whilst casting light on what makes the festival and the island so appealing.

Music is a cornerstone of island culture and it’s fitting that the first episode of Fèis Chiùil Thiriodh features Sharon Shannon and Skerryvore, an act rooted on Tiree with a worldwide following. With the Red Hot Chilli Pipers in concert in the second programme, this new series is set to bring an eclectic selection of the festival into our homes.

Fèis Chiùil Thiriodh also marks the television debuts of Tide Lines, fronted by the formidable talents of Robert Robertson and Ross Wilson, and they complete a lineup that includes Flook, Fergie MacDonald, Nashville singer Jesse Terry, Blazin Fiddles and Fergie MacDonald.
