Celebrating Burns Night in Lochboisdale

With Burns' Nights being held the world over last weekend, locals gathered around a coal fire at the Lochboisdale Hotel, for a dinner with a distinctly Uist flavour.

To the sounds of songs composed by bards from both near and afar, along with tunes on the pipes and box, revellers celebrated the birthday of the internationally renowned Ayrshire poet.

Cailean Martindale kicked festivities off with Burns’ own ‘A Man’s A Man’ as he piped in the haggis.

After everyone had had their fill of the traditional fare, participants enjoyed Gaelic and Scots songs from the likes of Paul McCallum, Dòmhnall Ruairidh Campbell and Coinneach Mhanson, as well as an excellent rendition of ‘Òran Èirisgeidh’ from the Eriskay contingent.

A constant stream of tunes which radiated from the accordions of Kilphedar Sound entertained participants well into the night.

Ceòlas, who organised the event, would like to thank the hotel and all who came out on a cold, wet night.
