Delving into Talk Talk world

TalkTalk has had a presence in Lewis since 2005 when Carphone Warehouse acquired Onetel. We are one of the largest private sector employers on the island contributing to the local economy and providing 69 jobs.

The dynamic of the site has changed greatly over the last few years, moving from a traditional call centre to a more office-based environment where we deal with high level complaints and Bereavement Services.

These are skilled roles requiring a mature and motivated workforce who are able to organise demanding case work without compromising on quality of service.

We are a close community of colleagues who genuinely care about each other and the local community.

One of our employees, Colin Macleod, of Minch and St Kilda Swim fame, was able to obtain TalkTalk sponsorship of the St Kilda swim and was also supported with additional leave through our Give Something Back programme, which gives employees a paid day off to volunteer with a charity.

The St Kilda Swim raised a total of £21,500 in aid of The Leanne Fund, the Fisherman’s Mission, Yorkhill Children’s Charity and Aberlour Childcare Trust.

We also have a Digital Champions initiative where we help to get people online or to get more out of using the internet.

TalkTalk Stornoway has just completed their first ever Digital Champion volunteering in partnership with Third Sector Hebrides which was well received by those attending.

As well as providing opportunities to volunteer we also raise funds for local groups and charities having recently donated £100 to Action for Children and the same amount to The Stornoway Primary Parent Council.

In August 2015 Saranne Slater completed her first ever sky dive in aid of The British Heart Foundation and raised over £1700.

TalkTalk are committed to making the company a Great Place to Work and as part of this offer a fantastic range of benefits ranging from health insurance, gadget insurance and the Cycle to Work Scheme to a yearly away day (The Great Getaway) complete with free charter flights to the event.

This year’s Great Getaway saw 118 employees, friends and family fly to East Midlands Airport and then on to Catton Hall where we enjoyed beach activities, fairground and festival zones and a traditional village fete featuring Mel Giedroyc who acquitted herself admirably judging the many entries to the baking and cooking competitions.

One of our own Stornoway colleagues, Lesley Smith, won the over 18 category with her chutney!

Festival goers were entertained by employee acts and headliners Sister Sledge and Scouting for Girls while the children were thrilled to see Mr Tumble in the flesh on the main stage.

TalkTalk is without a doubt an interesting place to work which can at times be demanding but we are an exciting and innovative company dedicated to improving our customer experience and product offering.

I am personally proud to be part of the journey as we continue to Make Britain Better Off challenging the bigger guys to look to their game.
