Dip into country and folk at the Golf Club

Cale’s music has been described as ‘new traditionalist’, as his work revisits and reworks the classic sounds of honky tonk and country style, with some contemporary touches to appeal to a modern market.

Growing up in Fort Worth, Texas, Tyson moved to Nashville four years ago and whilst there self released two EPs which formed his first musical outing ‘Easy’.

This year saw the release of his first full length album ‘Careless Soul’.

Tracks from the album, which no doubt will feature heavily at the Stornoway gig, are full of all the best that Southern American music has to offer.

It’s a crowd pleasing package with a traditional Country background, a good dollop of Rock ‘n’ Roll, the legacy of Gospel, some Soul and a nod to 60s Pop.

Cale Tyson has been hailed as this year’s breakthrough artist in country music and you can catch what is making them stand up and take notice this weekend.

Also on the menu at this gig is Erin Rae and the Meanwhiles. Growing up in Jackson, Tennessee, Erin Rae got an early introduction to folk music at home.

Her mum and dad were both part-time musicians, playing their own brand of American roots music at churches, county fairs and coffee shops in west Tennessee. Starting as early as five years old, she would join them for a song or two.

Two decades later, she’s still spending her time onstage — this time as the main act. As the leader of Erin Rae and the Meanwhiles, she walks the line between old-school folk and modern Americana, creating a sound that nods to her influences while pushing ahead toward something new.

Erin and company recorded their first full-length album ‘Soon Enough’, during an inspired two days in west Nashville, it was released in 2015 and is described as new music for old souls.
