Donation to help Parkinson’s research

The money was raised during the 2014 HITA awards in November and will be used by Parkinson’s UK for research and to improve the lives of people living with the condition.

Jan Mattison, Community and Events Fundraiser West Scotland at Parkinson’s UK, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to HITA for helping us to raise awareness of Parkinson’s.

“The funds they have raised will help to improve the lives of local people affected by Parkinson’s in the Highlands and Islands.”

Marina Huggett, Chair of HITA, said: “We are delighted to be able to help this important charity with the vital work it does in the community.”

This year’s Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards were launched earlier this month in Inverness by Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Europe and External Affairs Fiona Hyslop.

The annual awards – which are free to enter - celebrate and reward the very best tourism businesses and individuals in the Highlands and Islands.

Businesses or individuals can put themselves forward for recognition or be nominated in 15 categories. Visitors and peer nomination groups are being encouraged to propose businesses they feel deserve an honour, although success will not be based on the number of nominations made.

The event will culminate in a grand ceremony at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness on 13 November.
