An emotional journey for comedian generates laughs

In ‘Who Do I Think I Am?, Mark charts his life, which started much like any other – but soon leads to Sixties London and The British Royal Family.

Mark was adopted by Ernie and Doreen in 1960 when he was just a few days old.

He always knew he was adopted but wasn’t interested in finding his birth parents until he became a dad himself.

We wouldn’t want to spoil the show for you, but be prepared to be amazed...

“It’s a remarkable tale, and every time I do a bit more research, it just keeps getting more absurd,” Mark said.

“It never really bothered me that I’d never met my mum.

“It never occurred to me I needed to meet her to ‘find out who I was’, as it didn’t seem likely I’d discover I was someone different to who I thought I was.

“Could it turn out I spoke Italian or had a fear of Liquorice Allsorts?

“But after the birth of my own son, I realised it’s quite an event to have a child, and she may well remember giving birth to me, and maybe even the adoption.

“People must come along to see the show and be thinking, ‘Come on now, he must be making this up’.

“But I promise you, every word is true. It’s totally insane as a story.

“It’s like something that’s happened to someone else,” Mark continued.

“But my parents have given me a show, so that’s something I can say they’ve handed down to me.

“And the show is just a comedy show – it’s not a me analysing my life.”

So what can fans expect from the show?

“When I first did the show it was an hour and ten minutes long,” says Mark.

“It’s now progressed somewhat and it’s over two hours long.

“When the fidgeting starts, people are glancing at their watches – or the dreaded mobile phones come out – then it’s time to wrap it up and bring the show to an end!”
