Excellent grade for Trust care

Trust Housing Association Ltd 's two developments at Matheson Road and Lewis Street in Stornoway are celebrating being awarded a grade 6 of excellent by the Care Inspectorate.

A grade 6 is the top grade that can be given by the Care Inspectorate - who regulate and inspect care services across Scotland to make sure they meet the right standards.

Inspectors met with tenants in both developments during one of their regular social activities, as well as speaking to individuals, staff, and groups.

Trust Housing Association Ltd was registered with the Care Inspectorate in April 2011 to provide a Housing Support Service to older people living in sheltered housing developments.

The Branch 6 service has two develoopments in Stornoway. Each development is managed by a co-ordinator who reports directly to the manager of the registered service.

The operational hours of each development varies according to the needs of tenants and all tenants have access to an emergency alarm call centre.

Feeling safe is important

Trust Housing Association’s Mission Statement is: “To provide high quality homes and services that offer independence and choice”.

As part of the recent review of the service Tenants told the inspector: “I never thought I would be happy again, it’s heaven on earth,”

“The staff are caring and supportive, they are there when you need them and they listen to your problems.”

“I have had help with a lot of things including going on holiday. I would never have been able to do that if it weren’t for the staff and “feeling safe is important to me and I get that here. I have no worries.”

Carol Ferguson, coordinator at Matheson Road said: “We’re thrilled to be awarded ‘excellent’ for our quality of care and support.

“Knowing that our tenants are happy living with Trust shows us that we are doing everything we possibly can to help improve their quality of life and maintain their independence’.”

Caroline Waddell, coordinator at Lewis Street added: “It has been a team effort to achieve this grade.

“It is great recognition and reflects the hard work that is put in on a daily basis by the whole team.

“Now the next stage begins to ensure we maintain this grade 6 and tenants continue to feel safe, supported and cared for.”
