Getting ready for another great Loopallu event

The Stranglers are ready to entertain at this weekends Loopallu festival in Ullapool.

It shouldn't work, really. A festival held in late September in a remote village on the West Coast of Scotland?

But over the years Ullapool’s Loopallu Festival has gathered pace and praise for bringing the best musical acts to the village - come rain or shine.

Acts announced for festival weekend (September 30- October 1) include Feeder and The Stranglers, The Wonder Stuff, The Selecter, Lucy Spraggan, Hunter and the Bear; Manran, Eliza and the Bear, ONR, Callum Beattie, The Van T’s, Lional, the world champion Ullapool Pipe Band and so much more.

Plus, in conjunction with Ullapool Book Festival there will be debate, readings and the occasional song from the likes of Edwyn and Grace Collins, Miles Hunt, Mark Radcliffe and Vic Galloway.

Their only Scottish festival appearance this year, Welsh rockers Feeder are set to bring their catchy brand of rock to the stage on Friday.

Since they started releasing records 20 years ago, Feeder have never been far from the charts or strangers to the stage. Having sold over 5m records, they’ve played all over the world.

Now, after a four year break to pursue solo projects Feeder are ready to reclaim their position as one of the biggest and best rock bands.

Grant Nicholas said: “We are very excited to close the festival season in Scotland. Scotland has always been one of our favourite places to play and this festival has a great reputation, so we look forward to seeing some new and old faces again.”

Icons. Legends. Punk trailblazers. Call them what you will, but The Stranglers headlining Loopallu on Saturday night, is an obvious highlight of the two-day event.

No strangers to the North West coast having taking top billing before, they’re constantly one of the festivals most requested acts to return.

Formed way back in 1974 as The Guildford Stranglers, the band were initially based in The Jackpot, an off-licence run by their drummer Jet Black.

Quickly developing a following they were soon washed away into the punk movement, opening for both Patti Smith and The Ramones on their British tours.

And the band can’t wait to take to the stage.

Celebrating their 30th Anniversary are the Wonder Stuff. With a catalogue of hits, it’ll be a challenge not to be dancing within minutes of the band coming on stage.
