Local day sees most dogs chipped at a single event in history

Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity was delighted to be able to welcome Scottish Parliamentary candidate for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Dr Alasdair Allan, to a microchipping event on the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland on Tuesday 5th April.

The event, which took place just one day before compulsory microchipping legislation came into effect, was a huge success, with a record number of local residents bringing their four legged friends along to the Bridge Centre in Stornoway to take advantage of the free microchipping service on offer.

A whopping 376 dogs were chipped on the day while Dogs Trust representatives were also on hand to offer advice and answer any general queries, as well as reminding dog owners of the importance of keeping their microchip database details up to date.

Dr Allan was able to talk with members of the constituency and discuss their views on the issue, while learning just how vital compulsory microchipping is in reuniting stray dogs with their owners and deterring dog theft.
