S5/S6 CHOICES

Choice forms for students moving into S5 and S6 are being issued this week.

There will also be a booklet available on the school website giving information about entry requirements and the content of courses on offer.

On Monday 7 March parents, carers and students can meet with school management and Guidance staff.

SDS (Skills Development Scotland) and UHI Lews Castle College will also be represented. The meeting will take place at 7pm in the Assembly Hall.

SHINTY SUCCESS

Scott MacLeod and Ronan Sinclair (both S4) recently played important roles in Lewis Camanachd’s first victory over North Division 2 rivals Lochcarron.

Scott scored twice in each half and also assisted with the second Lewis goal.

Ronan came on before half-time to replace injured defender and former Nicolson pupil, Conor MacDonald.

The score was 3-2 and new manager Duncan Macintyre was delighted to record a victory in his first game in charge.

NETBALL

The S2 girls’ netball team has now been knocked out of the Scottish Schools Cup, after a valiant effort against Glasgow school St Thomas Aquinas. The girls played extremely well and should be proud of themselves for getting to the third round of their first Scottish competition.

PARKING

We must urge parents to use the appropriate areas for parking.

The area immediately to the rear of the Comhairle offices is for customers of Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais (ISL) only.

Parents must not use this area to pick up, or drop off pupils.

The parking area to the rear of the school is only for teachers and other employees based in the school.

Parents should only drop off, and pick up pupils in the old bus park on Smith Avenue, which was constructed specifically for this purpose.

S2 PARENTS’ CONSULTATION

After the recent parents’ evening, parents were surveyed regarding their opinion of their child’s school experience. 98 per cent of parents agreed, or strongly agreed, that their child found the learning experiences at school enjoyable and sufficiently challenging.

The same number of parents also felt that the school keeps them up-to-date with news and other developments in the school. It was also commented that the school’s Facebook is very useful for announcements and news.

MUSICAL EVENING

Pupils who are taking SQA Music exams will perform in a concert this evening at 7pm in the Assembly Hall.

The concert gives pupils the chance to play one of their examination pieces in advance of their examinations (the visiting examiner will arrive on 16 March).

The varied programme will include singers, pipes, and brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.

Entry is by voluntary donation at the door and all are welcome.
