Salvation Army celebrates thirty years at Bayhead centre
The Stornoway Corps of The Salvation Army held celebrations recently to mark 30 years of worship and service at Bayhead, Stornoway.
Majors Ray and Pat Brown, the first Salvation Army officers for the island, were special guests for the whole weekend, but were joined by special guests Lord Lieutenant and Mrs Matheson and Comhairle Chief Executive Malcolm Burr, on Saturday evening.
Celebrations began on Saturday evening as people came together to share some food and enjoy conversation.
The evening also included music from The Salvation Army band and quizzes in whichteams were asked questions relating to the Isle of Lewis, The Salvation Army and a round of general knowledge ‘trick’ questions for some added fun.
Celebrations then continued into Sunday as the worship service was led by Majors Ray and Pat giving thanks to God for his past faithfulness and looking forward to the future with trust in Him.
Stornoway Corps commanding officer Lt. Callum Newton said: “I want to offer my thanks to those who were able to join us over the weekend and help make it such a special occasion.
“I also want to say a public thank you on behalf of The Salvation Army to all those who have supported us here in various ways over the years.
“The generosity of the Hebridean people is notable and without it we would struggle to do as much as we do, but as it is we can continue to look forward to serving our community into the future.”
As well as having weekly services at 11am on Sundays, The Salvation Army serves lunch every Tuesday and Thursday at 12pm and breakfast on Fridays from 8.30-11am from the hall on Bayhead.
There is also Parent & Toddlers (9.30am) followed by Bible Study (12pm) on Wednesdays and Junior Club on Fridays at 6pm. All are always welcome.
