Sgoil Lionacleit band on top of the world!

They left Glasgow Green, and the World Pipe Band Championships, with a marvelous third prize in the Novice Juvenile section.

In this section there were twenty entries from young bands from all over the World, and Sgoil Lionacleit Pipe Band (SLPB) gave a very impressive performance indeed.

The band members are aged between eleven and seventeen years of age and come from the different areas and districts of Uist, stretching from Berneray to Barra.

They are taught through the Comhairle’s Education Department in school.

There are 19 members in the group this time, comprising Pipers, Snare Drummers, Tenor Drummers and a Base Drummer.

The scoring at the competition, is made up of different elements of the performance, and while they were placed 3rd overall, SLPB were very encouraged to discover that they had actually scored higher in the piping aspect, than did the Band who were placed first overall.

This most recent success further demonstrates how the Comhairle’s current delivery of

Piping tuition in schools, is successfully progressing children from grassroots, right through to achieving prizes on the World stage.

Additionally, CNES have again this year confirmed further funding for the Band, which will assist greatly with the provision of drumming tuition.

The SLPB Association (which is made up of Parents, Tutors and Sgoil Lionacleit Staff) would like to extend their enormous thanks to the following: All the Band members for their hard work and commitment to the Band.

Their Parents for their ongoing support and fundraising efforts, Uist and Barra Councillors and local businesses for their generous financial contributions.

As well as the wider ommunity continue to encourage and support the Band in many ways, and who also gave the Band a rapturous welcome home as they piped off the ferry at Lochboisdale.
