Summer solstice at Callanish

A number of revellers took to the Callanish Stones on Lewis this week for the summer solstice to celebrate the longest day of the year.

With approximately 17 hours of daylight Monday, June 20, was this year’s longest day with the sun rising at 4.45am and setting around 10.34pm.

Dated to around 3,000BC the Callanish Stones is the most complete historic stone circle in Europe.
