The Saw Doctors back in Stornoway this October

It was a cold wintry evening when the Saw Doctors were discovered by Mike Scott of the Waterboys in the back room of the The Quays Bar in Galwaway back in the early 1980s.

He offered them a slot supporting the Waterboys on their six-week tour of Great Britain.

The stint quickly catapulted them into the public eye, but it was the Saw Doctor’s second single ‘I Useta Lover’ that really gave their career a kickstart.

It’s still a time that singer and guitarist Leo Moran looks back on fondly.

He said: “It really opened doors for us and allowed us to travel to places we never would have dreamed of. I loved the song then and I still do now.

“It got a crazy amount of attention when it was released, and it all moved a bit too fast to really savour what was happening – but I’m glad it did!”

The lads are about to embark on a Scottish tour and Leo is eager to get going.

“We love playing in Scotland and we always get such a warm reception from Scottish fans wherever we go,” he said.

“We start off with a few dates around the Scottish Highlands and Islands, before heading to Glasgow in December.

“Where we are heading for our Scottish leg of the tour is just perfect. We love the towns and the countryside.

“Fans can expect new stuff, old stuff, and new versions of old stuff,” Leo said.

“The new tracks might differ slightly to what end up on the finished album, but it will still be good to gauge a reaction to see if fans like them or not.”

Even after all these years, the band still love getting up on stage.

“I love it,” Leo said. And we’ll keep going for as long as we’re wanted!”
