During the schools tour, alongside Shopping for Shoes, (for nine to twelve year olds), Catherine Wheel’s award-winning production of Martha will also be shown for younger children.

Both shows will tour to Shawbost Primary on 15 & 22 September, Sgoil nan Loch on 16 & 23 September 2016 and Sir E Scott Primary (Isle of Harris) on 14 and 21 September. Leverhulme Memorial School pupils will also be attending the performance at Sir E Scott Primary and Breasclete School pupils will attend at Shawbost Primary.

Shopping for Shoes is a fast-paced and witty show by Tim Crouch, performed by Sarah McCardie and tells the heart-warming tale of new love, focusing on characters Siobhan and Shaun – one of whom is passionate about politics and the other about shoes.

Martha, performed by Hannah Donaldson and Chris Alexander is a warm and funny show about a stubborn and eccentric woman who lives on her own by the sea and doesn’t want any friends. But one day a mischievous goose turns up and Martha’s life is never the same again.

In addition to the performances in schools, there will be resources available online for teachers. These will include show information; videos for teachers and children; post-show activities for teachers in the classroom and tools to help teachers and pupils evaluate the performances: theatreinschoolsscotland.com

Launched earlier this year as a pilot project, Theatre in Schools Scotland will see two award-winning plays travel to communities and schools throughout Scotland this autumn.

The Lewis tour has been made possible thanks to sponsorship from The Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) and support from Arts & Business Scotland and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.

The performance at An Lanntair takes place on Saturday 24 September at 11:30am.
