Contractors are on site in Bernera to make a start on the new bridge
It’s good news for the residents of Bernera as the council has confirmed contractors have arrived on site.
Preliminary activity has now commenced in preparation for construction work to start on the new Bernera Bridge crossing.
Contractors are currently on site diverting the various utility services.
Accesses are also being created to areas where geotechnical engineers will confirm rock and foundation levels. The main construction works will commence in April as long as the weather permits that to occur in advance of the bridge components starting to arrive on the island and being transported to the site.
Current estimates supplied by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar indicate that the bridge will be in place for usage by residents by the end of June.
