A spokesman for the Comhairle told the Gazette: “Since construction restarted in June 2020, robust procedures have been in place that enables contractors to work safely and efficiently in accordance with the Construction Scotland, Construction Leadership Council and Government advice.

Travel associated with construction work is permitted and classed as essential nationally. The Scottish Government has this situation under constant review utilising prevailing health advice and construction industry feedback on the effectiveness of control measures.

“The number of site operatives, travelling and accommodation patterns are kept to a minimum and stringent procedures are in place to ensure safety.

“The aim is implementing safe operating procedures in line with Government guidance and there being clear and consistent messages to all subcontractors not to travel should anybody develop or have COVID-19 symptoms.

“Safety for the community and workers remains the priority at all times. The arrangements continue to be reviewed and updated in line with the latest government advice and industry best practice.”

Recently, a number of comments appeared on social media platforms blaming contractors, amongst others, for spreading the virus if they are not tested on a regular basis.
