Following the news that the property purchase for the new community hub had been completed, then came the appointment of two officers to assist with its establishment.

These posts were already funded but the group found themselves in the position of having to fund the equipment needed for the new officers to carry out their duties.

A Western Isles Lottery Award of £1,366.21 for the purchase of laptops, associated hardware and an office printer was made. The entire funds were raised by supporters across the Harris area.

Angus MacLeod, Chairperson of the Community Hub said: “We are delighted to be in receipt of this funding as it will enable our new employees to commence work immediately on getting the hub up and running.

“The nature of the current world means that home-working is now playing a bigger part in employees’ lives and having access to laptops mean they can work either from the office or at home.

“It is especially exciting, on the 100 year anniversary of the Obbe to Leverburgh name change, that we are able to begin our journey of what will hopefully be a regeneration for the Leverburgh and wider South Harris community.”

Funding continues to be raised in the Harris area. To join the Lottery you can log onto www.westernisleslottery.co.uk to help raise funds for your own area.
