The development is planned for a site 500m to the north of Urgha township, on the Scalpay road, and to the west of the outfall between the Laxdale Lochs.

Documents in the application, completed by John Renshaw Architects, state that IHD requires additional production capability to allow the business to grow, and to meet the demand.

IHD’s growth, the application’s Design Statement adds, requires IHD to introduce one new maturation warehouse in the next twelve months, and anticipates an off-site bottling and logistics facility in 2020/2021, replacing the existing ‘space constrained on-site facility in Tarbert’, with a further maturation warehouse needed by 2021/2022.

The proposed maturation warehouse would be approximately 200m2 in size.

The office and staff facilities would be finished ‘to emulate the design of the existing facilities in Tarbert’ and ‘to ensure that there is a cohesive language and identity for the buildings that form a part of the business’.
