The Western Isles Lottery have organised the illumination of Stornoway Town Hall in blue to commemorate Burn’s Day this Monday.

Burns Night is celebrated in Scotland this year on 25 January 2021. It commemorates the life and work of the bard (poet) Robert Burns, who was born on January 25, 1759. The day also celebrates Burns’ contribution to Scottish culture. Burns’ best known work is “Auld Lang Syne”.

The Town Hall illumination project, initially undertaken to the south facing side of the building is a permanent installation which will be colour co-ordinated to commemorate a variety of annual celebrations throughout the year. Burn’s Day in January is the first of such commemorations.

The Western Isles Lottery team express their sincere thanks to Innes Campbell of Ace Electrical and his workmen Kevin and Rob, to Medlocks for going above and beyond to source the specific lighting materials and to Neil and John of Breedon Hebrides for carrying out the civil works. The illumination project could not have been realised without the ongoing support from CNES and the Lottery Team express their gratitude to the officers for all their support and guidance.

Roddie Mackay, Council Leader, said “Well done to the Western Isles Lottery team for coming up with the idea of lighting the Town Hall and then, in partnership with the Comhairle, getting the project completed and bringing yet another enhancement to our town centre.”
