Over 1500 people have viewed the live cooking session with James which went out on the Lews Castle College UHI Facebook page.

The response to this and the new NPA in Professional Cooking has been extremely positive and to build on this response James will host further session where the public can select what he cooks.

James commented: “We were blown away by the interest in the cooking session and our new plans to develop more cookery and hospitality courses at the College. We want the local community to be part of what we are doing so we are opening the online sessions for them to take part in.

“We are asking for people to submit their recipe requests and what they want to see me cook. We will then supply an ingredient list a few days in advance and people can cook along with me.”

James’ role as Development Chef is part of Lews Castle College UHI’s approach to support and develop new opportunities for the local community hit by the COVID-19 Global Pandemic. The College has developing a range of new training experiences in the professional cookery and hospitality sectors to meet the needs of the local industry and so increase the resilience of the local economy.

An invitation to tender for a feasibility study into the creation of a new training restaurant and linked café facility on the campus to maximise student learning and expand student experience opportunities is currently open from Lews Castle College UHI.
