Shocking behaviour as Stornoway Primary is targeted by teen vandals.

The school suffered serious damage as a result of the wanton vandalism.

Police Scotland have confirmed all three individuals will now be the subject of a report to the Children’s Reporter.

Earlier this week on receiving the original call about the vandalism, police in Stornoway made an appeal on social media for information following the levels of damage that has been caused at the school.

Sometime between Wednesday, December, 23, 2020 and Saturday, January, 2 the individuals gained entry to the school on Jamieson Drive and extensive damage was caused to various parts of the building.

Sergeant Ross Masson of Stornoway Police Station said: “It is very disappointing that this mindless act of vandalism has taken place at Stornoway Primary School.

“There is a minority in our community who feel this sort of behaviour is acceptable, but I want to be clear that it is not.

“Sergeant Ross Masson, of Stornoway Police said: “I’d like to thank the members of the public who came forward with information after our appeal.

“This type of behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities. Anyone who has concerns about anti-social behaviour in their area is encouraged to contact police by calling 101 as promptly as possible.

A spokesman for the Western Isles Council said: “Police inquiries into the incident has led to three people being charged. School and Comhairle staff have been assessing the damage to the school throughout today.

“The damage caused by the vandalism at Stornoway Primary extended to equipment, furnishings and technology in two nursery playrooms, four school classroom areas, three halls, two office spaces, the canteen kitchen and foyer area. There was also flooding damage caused to all of the above areas and an additional two areas, including the school’s plant room, resulting in significant damage to the heating system.

“We were deeply saddened to see the malicious damage and vandalism which had been caused at Stornoway Primary over the holiday period and condemn these actions in the strongest possible terms.

“We would like to thank the staff of Stornoway Primary, Comhairle building and technical staff, contractors and Police Scotland for all their work in addressing the vandalism and working to ensure the school can open this week as normal and education can continue.”
