The Shed in Stornoway has reopened two of its popular projects, The Ark and The Well.

The project was forced to close its doors. This meant losing direct contact with some 40-50 individuals who benefitted from the support it provided through The Ark and The Well projects.

These were aspects of the organisations work that specifically supports those whose lives are affected by alcohol of substance misuse.

Both of these schemes also provide a drop in service for people to enjoy the company of others and so find a sense of community.

A spokesman said: “Lockdown has brought profound challenges to us all, and especially to those, who, as a result of challenges in these areas are experiencing a sense of isolation and loneliness.

“In light of this, and in consultation and partnership with our local Alcohol and Drug Partnership (Western Isles Health Board), we’ve decided to open up both of these aspects of our work.

Fiona Douglas, The Shed Project Manager said: “The Well and The Ark drop ins have recently reopened at The Shed Project.

“The Well is open on Wednesdays from 10am -4pm. It meets in The Shed which is directly opposite Broadbay Medical Practice on Francis Street.

“The Ark meets on Friday’s from 10am-12noon in Martin’s Memorial Hall, which is opposite the Post Office entrance. The Ark is a specific women’s meeting whereas The Well is open to all.

“Both drop-ins are free and everyone is welcome. There’s free tea/coffee, and a welcome face.

“Both initiatives provide a chance to meet with like-minded people, play a game of pool, and generally just relax in a friendly and welcoming environment.

“We are following Government advice regarding COVID 19, and ask that you wear a mask (unless exempt) and practice social distancing.

“We would love to welcome you back if you’ve been before and are also looking forward to saying hello to some new faces.

“If you plan on coming along to The Well or The Ark please call 704557 in advance in order that we can manage the numbers of those who want to come along.

“We look forward to seeing you all and assure you of a very warm welcome.”
