Western Isles remain in level three

While mainland Scotland enters a new phase of lockdown this week following the First minister’s statement on Monday, the Western Isles will remain in level three restrictions.

This is primarily due to the levels of control currently in force on the islands, which retains one of the lowest levels of Covid-19 transmission.

NHS Western Isles’ Gordon Jamieson, in his nightly update broadcast to island residents continually reminds people of how fortunate we are and that we must continue to comply with the guidelines and restrictions to ensure the islands remain in level three.

There have been no new cases of Covid-19 for some time across the island communities.

Meanwhile, it our responsibility to try to keep the islands covid-free by maintaining the FACTS guidance at all times, and in particular by following the advice on travel.

Some commentators on social media are calling for stricter restrictions to be placed on ferry and air travel, complaining that this is a ‘weak spot’, however the Scottish Government have said there is no intention of tightening up any of the level three restrictions currently in force for the island communities when it comes to travel.
