It was definitely the right place, and right time for Michelle

This brings the total of Lucky2bhere devices in the Western Isles to 133.

The charity works across the region to provide Emergency Life Support [ELS] training across the community with a strong focus on educating young people in schools.

The constituency office on Bayhead, Stornoway is in a busy location by the main road leading to the town centre opposite the Bridge Community Centre and an access path to the Lews Castle Grounds.

Funding for the defibrillator came from a 250km fundraising challenge by Michelle Macleod who survived a cardiac arrest in August last year.

She survived due to the swift actions of those nearby and the availability of a defibrillator.

Michelle said: “I came up with the fundraising idea for a defibrillator because I wanted to give something back.

“On that day last year, if it hadn’t been for the availability of a defibrillator and having people nearby knowing how to do CPR, the long and short of it is that I wouldn’t be here today.

“I am hugely grateful to everyone who contributed to my fundraising and seeing the defibrillator on the wall, ready to be used if it is ever needed, makes me feel very happy.”

Angus MacNeil MP said: “I am very pleased that my office in Stornoway now has a Lucky2bhere defibrillator in place. Michelle, who is part of my constituency team, identified the office building as an ideal location for another defibrillator.

“The work of Lucky2bhere here in my constituency and across the country is to be commended. The installation of 133 defibrillators so far here in the islands is incredible and the programme of education in schools is leading the way across the country.”

Lucky2BHere was founded in 2009 to provide defibrillators and life support training to local communities.  In ten years, they have placed over 600 defibrillators.
