The project’s an important one

Staff and students at Macaulay College are very proud of their recently planted woodland area and deer fence for a future community sensory garden located at the college.

As well as promoting natural biodiversity by creating shelter belts, improving and drying up an unused area of land, they will be creating an fully accessible area reminiscent of a wild and natural forest leading to a clearing which will be the base for woodland themed workshops and activities for the college and the local community to use.

This project was generously funded by Third Sector Hebrides from the Scottish Landfill Community Fund and Foundation Scotland in addition to the Bailie Gifford Community Fund.

It has been a busy year completing the work and organisers would like to thank all volunteers and the team from Macaulay College for working so hard to plant the 840 trees (alder, aspen, birch, crab apple, holly, hawthorn, hazel and willow) kindly donated by the Woodlands Trust and Croft Woodland Project along with 240 olearia and escalonia hedging bushes.
