Residents urged to get vaccinated

If you are eligible for a free influenza vaccination and have not yet booked an appointment, NHS Western Isles is encouraging individuals to contact NHS Western Isles for an appointment at one of the scheduled clinics as follows, or to call them to book an appointment at a future clinic at a suitable time/later date.

Clinic availability for this week is, (please note depending on uptake this could change):

Thursday 29th October – Habost Surgery, South Uist Medical Practice & Barra Learning Centre

Friday 30th October - MA Memorial Hall, Uig Surgery & Benbecula Branch Surgery

Clinic availability for week commencing November 2 is as follows:

Monday 2nd November: MA Memorial Hall (Stornoway), Borve; Habost.

Tuesday 3rd November: MA Memorial Hall, Daliburgh, Bernera

Wednesday 4th November: MA Memorial Hall, Borve, Carloway, Habost

Thursday 5th November: MA Memorial Hall, Carloway, Daliburgh, Habost

Friday 6th November: MA Memorial Hall, Borve

From 9th November, clinics will be held in Tong Hall for two weeks, contact NHSWI to book an appointment if this is a suitable venue for you. Additional clinics in North Uist will take place on 11th and 12th November.

Stornoway Health Centre is fully booked for appointments until 14th November, but appointments will be available after that date.

Those in the Western Isles who are eligible for the influenza vaccination are being urged to book an appointment on 01851 763304.

Please note that phone lines are open Monday to Friday, from 9am until 5pm. If it is more convenient, drop a message with your contact number to [email protected]. Phone lines may be busy.

Please do not contact your GP Practice as this year’s influenza vaccination programme is being managed by NHS Western Isles.

Eligible groups:

Pre-school children aged 2 to 5 (children must be aged 2 years or above on 1 September 2020 and not yet in school) are also offered a free flu immunisation – again taken as a pain-free nasal spray

Anyone aged 65 and over (by 31 March 2021)

Anyone with an eligible health condition (e.g. asthma, stroke, diabetes)

Pregnant women will be offered the flu vaccination by their midwife

Healthcare workers

Unpaid and young carers

Those living in the same home as people previously shielding from coronavirus

Social care workers who provide direct personal care

Please note that those aged 55 to 64 by 31 March 2021 will also be eligible for the vaccine from December.
