Two healthcare staff have tested positive for Covid in the Western Isles.

NHS Western Isles have now confirmed that two healthcare professionals on Lewis have tested positive for COVID-19.

The individuals, whose jobs have not been identified, are currently self isolating, and NHS Western Isles has said that all the appropriate steps in terms of the Test and Protect guidance and support are fully underway.

A spokesman said: “We can reassure islanders that these cases do not represent new community transmission of the virus, and the virus was not acquired locally.

“To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, we will not be releasing any further details at this time.”

NHS Western Isles Chief Executive Gordon Jamieson, said: “We would like to reassure our local communities and visitors to the island that we are taking all necessary steps to contact trace, and contain the virus but it is vital that everyone in the Western Isles redouble their efforts and follow the current Scottish Government restrictions and FACTS guidance to limit any spread of the virus.”

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are:

A high temperature (37.8C of greater)

And/or a new and continuous cough

And/or a loss or change in your sense of smell and/or taste.

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, no matter how mild, you and your household should immediately self isolate and book a test. Please be vigilant in terms of any new symptoms.
