Buckingham Palace has released its own brand of gin, deemed "the perfect thirst-quencher", by the Royal Collection Trust.

The Trust, a department of the Royal Household, announced the official Buckingham Palace gin along with a serving suggestion for the dry small-batch on its official website.

When can I buy the gin?

The product is available now to be bought online at the Royal Collection shop.

The 70cl blue bottle measures in at 42% ABV and is decorated with a wreath of colourful flowers. It is currently priced at £40 per bottle.

Ingredients fresh from Buckingham Palace Gardens

The gin’s name alludes to the fact that some of the ingredients have been sourced from botanicals gathered in the Buckingham Palace Gardens.

Buckingham Palace is home to impressive gardens which are home to 30 species of birds and over 250 species of wildflowers.

The product description reads, “Lemon, verbena, hawthorn berries and mulberry leaves are among the 12 botanicals hand-picked for the gin in the Gardens at Buckingham Palace, which span 16 hectares and provide a habitat for 30 species of bird and over 250 species of wild flower.”

What is the Royal Household’s serving suggestion?

To ensure customers fully enjoy the new gin in the royal way, the Royal Collection Trust suggests "a measure of the gin” should be poured “into an ice-filled short tumbler before topping up with tonic and garnish with a slice of lemon”.

The Queen’s ‘favourite drink’

Darren McGrady, the former royal chef, once revealed to CNN that gin is the Queen's "favourite drink", adding that she "likes a gin and Dubonnet."

Additionally, royal dresser Angela KellyHer revealed that the Queen’s cleaners polish her collection of rare jewels with a mix of gin and water.

However, this is not recommended in the product description of the new Buckingham Palace gin, and at £40 a bottle, it's probably best enjoyed as a summer beverage.

One hundred percent of the profits made from sales of the gin will be used to "help fund the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, and the promotion of access and enjoyment of the Collection through exhibitions, publications, loans and educational programmes."
