Leverburgh is all lit up for the festive season
An application to Western Isles Lottery was successful and funding of £1,470.00 was awarded to purchase the lights.
Ward funding from the three local councillors John Mitchell, Paul Finnegan and Grant Fulton was received to install exterior sockets to provide power.

Harris Voluntary Service said: “The Leverburgh Festive Lights mission is complete! We have been planning this one for a while and are happy after what has been a crazy year to have pulled it off. This year more than any other we need some festive cheer about the place!”
Harris Voluntary Service extends its grateful thanks to those who helped them achieve this project.
Thanks include Jason Morrison for installing the outdoor sockets and volunteers Willie MacRae, Neil Maclean, and Chris Morrison for erecting the lights. Special mention must be made to the local children who helped put up all the lights and build the “tree” over a weekend period.

“The display could not have been possible without the generosity of the local businesses who agreed to have lights put up on their buildings and Clachan Stores for allowing the use of a section of their customer carpark to site the Creel Christmas tree.”
Janet Paterson of the Western Isles Lottery said: “It is very rewarding to be working with the sub-group in Harris to see projects like this coming to fruition. This is a special time in any community, particularly for the local children who will benefit from all their efforts”.
Because Harris residents are supporting the local lottery it has resulted in this project happening. To help continue the good work in the community, you can join in the Western Isles Lottery at www.westernisleslottery.co.uk OR telephone their helpline on 0300 30 20 444.
