WHEN it comes to hitting the ground running with your new career, nobody could hit it any harder or faster than Lanark band Horia.

When choosing when and where to play their first-ever major city gig, the lads opted to debut at a charity Battle of the Bands contest in Glasgow, armed with a set of just two songs.

Winning the contest outright stunned the band - guitarists Nathan Campbell and Aidan Kelly, and brothers Calum (bass)and Jack Roden (drums.)

So, why the instant success?

Well, some put it down to Horia having a pretty distinctive sound that sets them apart from the rest, the brothers providing dual vocals.

Jack explained: “We have our own sound and play an alternative style of music with melodic harmonies with a strong rock base.

“We’re currently working on our EP. We have a lot of semi-finished songs but, at the time of the Glasgow gig, we only had two songs that are finished - Apple Of The Orange Tree and Letdown - which were the two we played at the Glasgow debut in front of a 350 strong crowd of Scotland’s finest businesspeople, celebrities and various other elite at the Marriott Hotel.

“We hadn’t a clue we were going to win because the competition was so strong.”

The event was the Cancer Support Scotland Battle of the Bands 2015 and the trophy - in the form of a replica gold disc - was presented by Still Game star Sanjeev Kohli.

With the start they’ve made, it looks as if a lot of real ones will be coming the boys’ way in the years to come.
