Donald MacRae (41), from Stornoway but currently living in Inverness, shows that juggling family priorities and work commitments whilst studying for his third degree was a rewarding challenge.
He graduated with a MSc Project Management from Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) Aberdeen Business School on Wednesday 11 July 2012 at 2.30pm.
The studious business man, who is self employed in the Oil and Gas Industry working a rotational work pattern out of Ghana, adds a MSc Project Management to his degree list which already comprises of a BSc in Quantity Surveying that he achieved in 1993 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Construction Law and Arbitration obtained in 1997, both from RGU.
Donald completed the MSc Project Management via distance learning whilst managing a demanding job overseas in Kazakhstan and Ghana, and a busy home life with the birth of his daughter, Katie (3), during the first year of the course and the birth of his son, Lewis (10 months), last year.
True to form, managing multiple projects, Donald has also been renovating a home in Shawbost, Isle of Lewis over the past year and is looking forward to spending some much needed quality family time there when it’s finished.
Donald said: “Completing the Project Management Masters has been the most challenging degree I’ve done, as I’ve had to prioritise the demands of my growing family as well as work commitments.
“I have recently set up my own business, Contracts Management Limited (CML), providing Consultancy Supply Chain Management Services to the Oil and Gas Industry. The MSc has hugely benefited my new company start up having broadened my skills set.
“I couldn’t have achieved what I have without the support, patience and understanding of my wife, Kathleen. While I’m working thousands of miles away from home for weeks at a time, she is looking after our two children and managing our home life, and when I was home I had to dedicate time to studying and coursework. As the saying goes; behind every man is a great woman.”
