Northern Constabulary cycling team scoop top prizes in national competition

A TEAM of officers from Northern Constabulary have scooped two top group prizes at the UK Emergency Services Time Trial Championships in Rugby, Warwickshire, last weekend.

The four officers in the team had to complete an individual 10mile time trial on Saturday, September 29th, and a 25mile time trial on Sunday, September 30th.

The combined effort of the officers at the national competition – with over 90 competitors against them – saw them gain 1st place for the 10mile challenge, and 2nd place for the 25mile.

The team were Deputy Chief Constable Andy Cowie; Sergeant Mel Fowler, currently posted in Aviemore; Sergeant Andrew Shaw from Portree; and Sergeant Alan McCaffrey, currently based in the Force Operations Centre at Police Headquarters in Inverness.

Team co-ordinator, Sergeant McCaffrey, said: “We were very proud to gain such results especially as it’s the first and only time Northern Constabulary have entered a team in this event.

“We are still waiting for confirmation of the individual results, but I’m confident from the team results that we’ve done well.”
He added: “Doing so well at such a prestigious event has been a fantastic achievement for Northern Constabulary in its final year.
