Iolaire Memorial by Marc MacPhadraig

Marc MacPhàdraig is from Livingston in West Lothian and saw the potential of this shot for the Gazette’s new Readers’ Pics section. He took it on Thursday, November 5, at the Iolaire memorial in Stornoway Harbour.

Marc said: “I thought it might resonate with your readership and I hope that you agree.

“I was working at the Cameo in Edinburgh when Cineworld decided to close all of its cinemas across the country for the foreseeable future. I was offered and took redundancy so now I am without work.

“I decided in my final few days that I would take the time to do something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time: visit Stornoway. I’m now a few weeks from having returned - but Stornoway and Lewis are beautiful places, though it was clear even to me that the Iolaire disaster made waves that still lap on the shores of the town harbour.”
